This 7-year-old C. japonica chance seedling first bloomed 1962. It was originated by Alec and Alice Horne of Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Bloom: The large anemone to loose peony form flower is bright red with yellow anthers and pink filaments. It has 28 large petals are large that surround 14 smaller ones, curled and intermixed with 12 petaloids and the stamens. All petals are somewhat twisted and curl outwards and downwards to form a ball.
Plant: Plant habit is upright and the growth rate is medium.
Leaf: Light green leaves are 3.7" x 1.5".
Bloom Season: Early to midseason
