This 8-year-old C. japonica chance seedling first flowered 1957. It was originated by Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Ashby of Charleston, South Carolina.
Bloom: The large 5" x 2" semi-double to peony flowers are wine colored flowers and have 12 to 15 petals and 25 to 35 long slender petaloids with spoon-like cups on end of each and interspersed with yellow stamens.
Plant: Plant growth is upright and dense.
Leaf: Leaves average 4" x 2"
Bloom Season: Early to midseason
