The K. Sawada Camellia Club is based out of the Mobile Botanical Gardens in Mobile, Alabama, home to the K. Sawada Wintergarden -- an American Camellia Trail Garden and one of only 7 International Camellia Gardens of Merit in the United States.
The club originated as the Camellia Club of South Alabama, but it now has an expanded geographic footprint that includes members from towns that have no local club, such as Greenville AL (camellia city), Andalusia, Florala, Monroeville and others.
Its members are very active in the American Camellia Society and include all ranges of camellia enthusiasts including newcomers, casual hobbyists, nursery owners, garden directors, college professors, retirees and a few fanatics!
The Club offers meetings and seminars in-person and by Zoom, as well as on Facebook and other social media. It is for people who are interested in camellia gardening in a changing world.
The club's objectives are (1) to promote the camellia as Alabama's state flower, (2) to celebrate the legacy of K. Sawada and other great Alabama camellia growers; and (3) to support and promote the K. Sawada Wintergarden.
