This C. reticulata hybrid first bloomed in 1984. It was originated by Frank Pursel, Oakland, CA, and propagated by Roscoe Dean, Lucedale, MS and E. Hulyn Smith, Valdosta, GA. It was registered with the American Camellia Society in 1992.
Bloom: A large to very large, heavily frosted red, peony form seedling of C. reticulata ('Cornelian' x 'Jean Pursel'). Average size flower, untreated in 6" wide and 3.25" deep and treated is 7" wide and 3.75" deep with golden anthers and red filaments. Commercially introduced in 1990. Plant growth is upright, average and rapid in rate with dark green leaves measuring 5.5" long and 2.5" wide.
