The Ocala Camellia Society is a local club affiliated with the American Camellia Society and is a registered non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, dedicated to the appreciation of camellias. As such, we endeavor to educate members and the public about the history, culture, propagation, exhibition and judging of camellias, acquire and share new information about camellias, encourage civic beautification with camellia plantings, organize exhibitions of camellias under the rules of the American Camellia Society and support the activities American Camellia Society. As part of our community involvement, we fund scholarships for students of horticulture and agriculture at our local college. The Ocala Camellia Society generally meets in the afternoon on the first Sunday of each month. (See the posted meeting schedule.) Meetings include a featured speaker discussing topics relevant to camellia lovers, refreshments, socializing, a brief business meeting, and plant raffles or auctions! In addition to monthly meetings September-March, the club organizes outings to local camellia gardens, including one outing where members may learn to propagate camellias by air layering. Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings. We invite you to join both our club and the American Camellia Society and benefit from the shared enthusiasm for camellias and the knowledge and expertise of other members! Annual dues for membership in the Ocala club are $10 for individuals, $15 for couples, and $50 for corporate sponsors. A monthly newsletter is published prior to each meeting and is included in the price of the annual dues. In 2027, the annual Ocala Camellia Show will be held the weekend of February 13-14 to avoid conflict with the International Camellia Society pre-conference in Mobile, a deviation from our usual dates of the fourth weekend in January. Entries will be accepted on February 13 from 7-10:15 a.m. and judging by American Camellia Society Certified Judges will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. The show will be open to the public on Saturday from 1-5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A wide variety of camellia plants will be on sale both days and members will be available to answer questions about camellias and to help novice exhibitors enter their blooms.
